London Life
Moving to London when I was only 20 from one of the most
northern parts of the country was a massive decision, but was probably the best
one I ever made and I am so glad I had the opportunity to do so.
It really is such an exciting and cool place to live with so
much going on that you are never stuck with a lack of things to do at a weekend. The
thought of moving down to the capital city absolutely terrified me at first,
but until you have lived there it’s hard to explain what it is really
like. During the first few weeks of
living there I kept finding myself saying things like ‘This doesn’t feel like
London’ or ‘I cant believe how warm it
is!’ (Just kidding on that one… but it is true, the weather is 100% better than
the North!).
After a few years living there, we began to become lazy and
started taking for granted all of the exciting places to visit that are right
on our doorstep, which is absolutely ridiculous; but I’m sure we are not the
only people who do this?? I think after
a while you begin to adopt the attitude ‘Well we can go there anytime?’ … But seeing
as the move back to Manchester was quickly approaching, it was time to start
making the effort again; so with a Friday off work and Portobello road being
open for business, we headed out with the camera and began re-exploring like we
did when we first moved down.
If you have never been before, Portobello road is full of
market traders selling all kinds of things from fashion, antiques, music,
books, jewellery and most importantly food! Saturdays are always really busy,
so it was nice going when the crowds weren’t as big.

Some street entertainers we saw - the guy on the left was very cool!
Now, look how good these doughnuts look and didn't even buy one.. I guess that just means Ill have to go back!
We stopped for lunch at Tonda which serves freshly made authentic Italian 'Pizetteas' which are the perfect size for lunchtime. This was the nicest pizza I have ever had. If you ever happen to be walking past they are often stood giving out free samples. Once you have had one bite, you will be sure to go back for more.
After lunch we walked right to the bottom of the road where you will stumble across a pretty big vintage market. There are so many lovely clothes stalls selling garments from all different eras. I have been to Portobello many times before and didn't even realise that bit was there, so it is definitely worth walking all the way along the to make sure you don't miss anything.
We finally headed home with full tummies, a camera full of pictures and a renewed sense of why we love London so much.
